I was there- it was quite a spectacle. I'm really sorry to live in this community right now and couldn't believe the disrespect and ignorance being spewed out last night from people around me. Our board is doing the best they can- but they are truly being villainized. They were even being lambasted for their pathetic $2000/year stipend that has remained the same since the 80's. I'm really worried about the future of this school district and where it is headed.
Ginny should run for the school board. But I guess it's easier to sit on your fat ass and play monday morning quarterback.
I'm so glad I don't live in West Bend anymore. I have a daughter, and when she goes to school I want to live in a community that is actually willing to invest in children.
Yeah, I find it amusing that they look at this in such a binary way. Taxes=bad, no matter what. They fail to recognize that when unemployment is up, perhaps investing in education might actually help in the long run.
The tax in question is a school levy property tax: A 12% increase or + $0.48 per $1,000 of property. Currently the tax is $4.00 per $1,000.On a $200,000 property, it's $96.00 more per year. Total school levy taxes if this had passed on a $200,000 property: $896.00 vs $800.00.One of the issues with this meeting was that there is a lot of frustration not only with the economy but taxes citizens do not have control of. Since, they do not have a voice on those taxes, the frustration was expelled at this meeting. Note: Children in the audience were shouting out, "No!"Even after all the presentation, people still thought that all their property taxes were going up 12%.
It's a crying shame that this is what these meetings look like. Ginny Maziarka there, in her purple mumu, looking like the queen of a deranged populous. These people were so excited to vote AGAINST anything that they screamed and yelled "NO!" for simple motions of the board. The intellect is clearly lacking. Nice job, West Bend. You've done yourself proud. And made our point. THIS is why we need to fund our schools: so our kids don't turn out like YOU.
I doubt the children (though this depends on their age) really understood the matter. Most children parrot the beliefs of their parents. Its called modeling. Anyone else find it ironic that their anger at not having a voice effectively deprives them of the coherent voice they would have had, had they been respectful? Also, really? This is all over $96? Heaven forbid that much more tax money go to education... don't these board members know that America only finances wars?!
Word. The amount of mis/dis-information on this matter is shameful. I wonder if a poll was taken of the attendees, how many thought that the proposed increase would result in a 12% increase in their entire property tax bill.Of course, Virginia and her circle-jerk friends at Boots 'n' Asses didn't feel the need to provide clarity on the facts. Better to just work people up in to a frenzy.
Owen says we should be thankful there are people like him and Ginny who waste taxpayer money on fruitless and pointless ORRs.
orr's have a purpose. harassing a teacher because he is gay and you have some crazy fear of homosexuality is NOT one of them.
I just wanted to correct some of the figures from anonymous above. The tax levy itself was a 12% increase, the mill rate was to be an 8.7% increase. The mill rate is currently $6.77 per $1000 value and was to go up $.59 to $7.36. It works out to $103/year on a $175,000 home. The school portion of property taxes (mill rate) is maybe 1/2 at most of our property taxes, so I believe the total property tax increase due to this would have been more in the 4% range. People do think they are getting a 12% hike though- it is very confusing. I myself don't quite understand why the total tax levy increase being 12% and the mill rate increase (at 8.7%) are different numbers.
Just knowing that Ginny is one of Owen's "moles" trashes any credibility he had.
I watched that no.4 video. Then, just for fun, I stripped an mp3 soundtrack from the video and looked at it in audio software. The loudness of the Ayes and Nos was about identical, in spite of the fact that Ginny Maziarka yelled into her camera for good measure. Some people think telling lies makes them true. If there was any message there, it was fifty-fifty. She can't say "loudly". The loudness is from the voices in her head.
